We entered Texas today and will put on 130 miles we're spending the night in Amarillo. Another sunny day, still cool and windy. Isn't it supposed to warm up down here? Route 66 follows along I 40 with some stretches totally missing. More to follow. Our hosts through Texas, Jeff Edmond and Don and Rosemary Roden have a special day planned for us. Besides seeing the U-Drop in in Shamrock a restored Phillips 66 station in McLean, the Route 66 museum, The tallest cross in the Western Hemisphere, 109 feet tall, we were treated to a stop at a friends garage. He had a great collection of cars for us to look at. Then it was off to the Palo Duro Canyon, a mini sized Grand Canyon, beautiful drive through the red rock. Next up was Jeff and Don's garage, now when I say garage picture an immaculate, clean, organized and decorated with all kinds of Corvette and Route 66 stuff. Everyman's dream Garage, at least the 10 guys we had with us were all drooling over it. Off to the Big Texan, Jeff has connections and was able to arrange for one of our guys to enjoy the 72 oz. steak along with all the fixings, shrimp cocktail, salad, roll, and potato. To make it fair he drew a name out of a hat, John Meyerhoff was the lucky winner. After an hour of chewing he was able to knock off about 33 oz. You should have seen that thing, it was huge. We had a good time watching him. Hopefully pics will follow. |
