Thursday April 10 - This is in Galena, Kansas, we turned the corner going into town and there were several people at this renovated station waving so we had to stop. They had heard we were coming through, they were so nice and friendly we stayed a talked for quite awhile. They are sisters who bought the building and are turning it into a small diner/gift shop. They were very excited about the prospects for Galena's future.
This was a special treat, some of you may recognize Tow Mater from the Disney movie Cars. Well, it's parked at the little station in Galena. This is the very truck the Disney people got their inspiration from. The pointed out a few other things that were also in the movie.
Thursay April 10 - This is a shot on the Rainbow Bridge in Riverton, Kansas.
This shot was on a road leading to Rainbow Bridge, this guy didn't make it. In case you hadn't been following the severe weather moving through Missouri, OKlahoma and Kansas Wed night, this is the result. We saw widespread flooding throughout the region. The Corvettes weren't spared, ours had 2 inches of water on the passenger side floor Thursday morning.
Another of many Route 66 relics. Even though this leg of the trip was only 13.2 miles, I think we spent about 4 hours there. Had a wonderful lunch at a cafe in Baxter Springs called Cafe on the Route. This cafe was featured in the Food Channel show Diners, Drive Ins and Dives. I wanted to try their Appled Stuffed Salmon which I saw them prepare on the show and was disappointed to find it only on the dinner menu. At first the waitress said it was only served for dinner and then I told her that I had driven all the way from Minnesota to try that dish, well, she said that item just got moved to the lunch menu. |
